John Lewis Newborn

With heavy hearts, we, the Staff and Management of R. Swinson Funeral Services, along with the Newborn Family, announce the transition of 90-year-old Mr. John Lewis Newborn of 5-B Mitchell Wooten Courts, Kinston, on Tuesday, June 9, 2026, at Harmony Hall Rehabilitation Center in Kinston.

Service will be held 2:00 pm Saturday, June 20, 2026 from the Robert Swinson, Jr. Memorial Chapel, burial will follow in Southview Cemetery. Visitation will be held on Friday, June 19, 2026, at the chapel.

Mr. Newborn is survived by four sons, John M. Washington of Kinston, John S. Washington of Fort Washington, Md., Jerry Washington of Virginia, Henry Washington of Baltimore, Md., nine daughters, Bernice Washington, Tammy Moore, Cheyenne Lewis Newborn, Estella Washington of Kinston, Betty S. Gibson of Ohio, Betty Brown, Margaret Washington, Ernestine Peyton, Ellen Y. Washington of Washington, DC, two brothers, Larry Newborn and Ralph Newborn of Kinston and a host of grandchildren, great grandchildren and other relatives and friends.
