With heavy hearts, we, the Staff and Management of R. Swinson Funeral Services, along with the Nobles Family, mourn the passing of 53-year-old Tony Devon Nobles, formerly of Ridgewood, NJ, who peacefully passed away on December 8, 2025.
On December 13, 1971, Tony Devon Nobles was born to Antoni Levon and Mary Ruth” Rabbit” Nobles at Valley Hospital in Ridgewood, NJ.
He was a gentle and quiet child who never complained about being sick or hurt. His quiet strength and kindness often brought comfort to those around him, creating a sense of warmth and familiarity that many will remember fondly.
Even at a young age, Tony was always a hustler. Trying to find different ways to earn money. Whether there was a paper route, working at a fast food restaurant, or even selling Blow Pops to students when he was attending George Washington Junior High School. There, he was known as “The Candyman”.
After graduating from Ridgewood High School, Tony discovered his true calling in trucking. His dedication and love for driving trucks reflected his commitment, inspiring those who knew him. But his true passion was drag racing with his race car. He was a die-hard NHRA fan, often attending races and supporting the sport he loved.
In 2000, Tony risked his life to save an elderly man whose car was stuck on the train track, grabbing him and running with him in his arms to safety, inspiring pride and respect among those who hear his story. His heroism earned him a couple of bravery awards.
Tony’s unique sense of humor, especially his love for rubber chickens, brought smiles and laughter to many. His cheerful presence and funny stories made every encounter memorable and uplifting. His cooking, making everything from scratch, will be extremely missed.
On December 8, 2025, he departed this life to be with his loving grandparents, H.I. & Elizabeth Potts, and Milton & Edith Nobles.
Tony leaves behind cherished memories with his son, Brandon Smith; his parents, Antoni Levon and Mary Nobles; his brother, Mark Nobles (Kim); his sister, Malessa Geniene Wade (Kevin); his grandchildren, Ryder, Baylor; his aunts, Ruby Artist, Rev. Gloria Nobles; great-aunts, Hilda Pleasant, Clara Johnson; his uncles, Richard Potts, H.I. Potts Jr., Lynwood Potts, Glenn Potts, George Nobles, and a host of other family members and tons of friends.
He will be missed beyond measure, but his legacy and the memories he created will always be in our hearts.
Tony's funeral service will be on December 20, 2025, at noon at the River of Life Christian Center. Following the service, he will be buried near his paternal grandparents, Milton and Edith Nobles, in Joe Williams Cemetery in Kinston, NC. Visitation will be on December 19, 2025, from 4-6 PM at R. Swinson Funeral Services.
